Finishes
Maple, Pear, and Cordovan Walnut Woodgrain Laminates
These three finishes have been very well received by customers who were looking for a beautiful and extremely durable surface.
Unlike cheap laminate products which use paper thin melamines and fragile and unsightly, glued edgebanding, WorkSpaces uses only the latest European thermal vacuum machine technology to achieve a tough, long lasting surface without cracks, openings, or glue lines.

Features:
- Dense, one inch super-refined fir/pine fibre core (again no particleboard is used in this desk!)
- Rigid, thermofoil laminates applied with heat and vacuum pressure to pull the laminate down, around all edges of the worksurface, sealing without glued edges, resulting in a beautifully uniform worksurface.
- Ergonomic edges friendly to wrists and arms
- Same high quality hardware and mechanisms
Surf(x) Laminate Details:
WorkSpaces uses special Surf(x) laminates for all of its woodgrains. Surf(x) laminates provide extra durability through their construction which consists of a tough abrasion resistant top coating over a clear overlay that then goes over the woodgrain print.
Independent testing finds that Surf(x) outperforms high-pressure laminates (HPL) used for kitchen countertops when tested for durability from burnish, scratching, impact resistance (denting), and stain resistance after clean up.
Test details include:
- Abrasion Test: Surf(x) had none to very slight wear mark vs. HPL having moderate, distinct wear pattern.
- Scratch Text (more grams is better resistance): Surf(x) resisted to 1000 grams vs. HPL showing scratch at 400 grams.
- Impact Resistance Test (distance steel ball has to drop before material cracks): Surf(x) showed no crack until 118 inches vs. HPL cracking at 50 inches.
- Stain Resistance: Surf(x) showed no effect after clean up from several acidic and common stains (e.g., vinegar, black permanent marker, alcohol, shoe polish, and more). HPL rated approximately the same.
In addition, Surf(x) receives one of the best fire ratings available (meets Class 1/A under STM E-84).

Commercial Office Finish Options
Additional Surf(x) laminate finishes are available by Special Order for COMMERCIAL OFFICE DESIGN PROJECTS involving multiple workstations. Special Orders require an extra 2-3 week lead time and an up charge. A sample pallet of finish choices is shown below - other finishes are also offered. Because these images were scanned and color is not accurate on monitors, please contact us to request samples with a brief description of your project.
Cherry, Medium Cherry, and Honey Maple Wood Veneers
Mira and Luminary Desk lines use AA grade North American veneers. Great care is taken to match the patterns in the veneers in order to enhance the natural grain of the wood. Work surfaces are book matched and are protected from dings with a 3 ply balanced construction. Even the drawer interiors are finished with matching wood veneer.

Finish:
Each piece in the Mira and Luminary lines goes through a 19 step finishing process that insures durability and consistency in the look and feel of the furniture. A hard catalyzed lacquer finish makes the surfaces resistant to water and hot beverage cups. Surfaces are pore-filled to provide a smooth finish.
Edges:
Both Mira and Luminary feature a 5mm hardwood edge on all tops and a 3mm hardwood edge on all end panels to ensure years of durability. Mira is designed with a classic straight edge detail and 1 1/2 inch thick tops to lend it an elegant look. Luminary is designed with a 1 1/8 inch reeded edge.
