Home Office Examples - InterActive Desk

The following examples are all the same room with four different attempts to find the right combination of workstation items to make it work for the client. This room is a 12 ft. x 12 ft. room.

Plan A

This is not a bad solution if south is at the window, that way there will be no direct sunlight hitting the monitor screen. The opening of the desk is at the door, but the conference area is on the wall next to the door which is appropriate. The client chair is not too cramped. The floor vent placement does not interfere with the desk leg. Laminate InterActive Desk dimensions are used.

Plan B

This would be my choice number two (see D for choice one) The only problem being late afternoon sunshine from the right side of the desk. A louvered blind would alleviate that problem. The closet is a bit tight but if one has to make a compromise this is the best place to do it. The only wasted space is between the post on the left wall and the desk.

Plan C

There are several problems with this plan. The desk is uncomfortably close to the door and one of the shelves was dropped so it would not be a barrier facing visitors entering the room. The client chair has to be square to the corner or we will trip over it when walking around the desk. The lateral file cabinet is over the vent cutting off circulation and yet if moved to the left the drawers cannot pull all the way out without hitting the desk. The desk cannot be pushed further against the window wall or its drawers will hit the credenza. Not a great solution.

Plan D

This is another possible winner depending on your ideas about conferencing. The room is open, seems bigger, and there is an intimate corner to meet with clients. The Arc Table has been used instead of the Peninsula Table. The mobile three legged Arc Table can be quickly moved around, adjusting to changing circumstances. There is more access to the closet. The afternoon sun on the window side is not a problem, morning sun in the winter might be a problem.
