Construction & Design

Cheap Cam and Pin Fittings
Most consumers are aware of the cheap knock-down fittings used by IKEA and other low end RTA manufacturers (see graphic at left). These cam and pin fittings allow only 3/4 of a turn to tighten and that's it, for ever! They also screw into low density raw particleboard which cannot resist any stress on the fitting and fractures. Furniture made this way begins to loosen up as soon as it is handled and can never be tightened back up again. This kind of furniture cannot be moved and reassembled without slop and movement between the joints.

WorkSpaces Fittings and Core Materials
On the other hand, WorkSpaces only uses machine screws, infinitely tighten'able System 7 fittings from Titus, or high strength thread cutting sheet metal screws with either threaded inserts or correctly sized pilot holes. We only use dense panel cores so that components can be take apart and reassembled many times without any loss of strength and rigidity. We absolutely guarantee you will be satisfied with the construction quality of your furniture. (see graphic at left)

Robust Design Philosophy
WorkSpaces has always had a philosophy of over engineering the strength of their products to American standards of durability. We don't expect our customers to be dainty with their desk system. For example our metal cylinder legs are 3" in diameter versus 2-3/8" for our competition. The physics of this difference results in a rigid leg with no bend or wobble. The smaller the leg diameter the more flex and movement the table will exhibit. It would be much cheaper to purchase the 2-3/8" leg since they are manufactured in larger quantities. However, the trade off in lowered quality is not worth it in our opinion. Another example is our wood cabinet construction. All of them including our wall mount units are made with a full 3/4" thick back panel that is dowelled and glued into the top, bottom, and sides. Our competitors are frequently using 1/4" material and stapling it to the end panels. The closet industry is probably the weakest in terms of construction since they are merely bracketing the end panel to the wall without even putting in any back panel. WorkSpaces has never built furniture this way and never will.
